Students Receive Academic Achievement Recognition

Nine of our scholarship students have been recognized by their schools for outstanding academic achievement during the recent school year.  The students are nearing the end of the academic year (January-October).  These students have not only excelled in the classroom, but have contributed their skills and energy to the community by restoring the central (Triangle) park in Chocola.  All of these students will continue their school careers next January.  We congratulate all of them!

Victor Diaz Can is the first beneficiary of an Amigos de Chocolá scholarship. Since entering the program, Victor has progressed through secondary education and is in process of completing his Bachelor of Arts studies at the Universidad de Galileo in Guatemala City. He has also conducted research work at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in the US. Victor recently returned to Chocolá, his home community, where he and his wife, Anne Kraemer Diaz, will help the next generation of students excel in the programs that are being built by Amigos de Chocolá and other NGOs in the Suchitepequez region. Victor was elected in 2013 to the Board of Directors of Amigos de Chocola.
