Students in Chocolá need Your Help

At Amigos de Chocolá, we believe building a better future for the world depends on a localized effort based upon principles of sustainability and respect for the cultures and traditions of others.

Amigos de Chocolá was formed to assist in providing foundations for long-term social and economic development in the town of Chocolá, Guatemala. Generally, our planned programs include educational and financial assistance. From a development perspective, the town has tremendous future economic potential in eco-tourism and specialty agriculture.  But education is the key to progress!

Providing a vehicle for students to stay in school, practice good work habits and learn to succeed at whatever they do, is central to our mission. Amigos has encouraged education through supporting scholarships to students whose families simply can’t afford to send them to school otherwise.  In these days of ever increasing expenses in all parts of our lives, it takes a relatively modest sum to fund a scholarship for one of these deserving students.

In the developing world, there is a premium on learning and retaining life skills.  Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders.  You can help fulfill the promise of tomorrow with a donation to an educational scholarship.

  • Any amount will help sustain educational opportunities for needy students in Chocolá
  • $200 (£160) will provide one year’s scholarship for a Middle School student**
  • $350 (£275) will provide one year’s scholarship for a High School student**
  • $100 (£80) will provide 100 Educational CDs for the Central Library’s learning center

Now you can make a donation through PayPal quickly and easily, however a $4.50 (£3.50) fee will be charged by PayPal!

**Please tell us if you would like to sponsor a student for 1,2 or 3 years.

OUR MOST RECENT FUNDING INITIATIVE WAS A GREAT SUCCESS

By partnering with another organization, Miracles In Action, Amigos was able to help improve conditions at the Basico (Middle School) in Chocolá. Funds were raised to purchase materials for the building of TWO NEW CLASSROOMS. Your generous donations also allowed Amigos to completely furnish the new classrooms with student and teacher desks, white boards and new cabinets that will house a library for the school. The new addition was built by volunteers from the village in only 6 weeks and was completed in early March 2015. The people of Chocolá join us in thanking you for your contributions to this important project.

We Celebrate and Thank Our Donors

We thank you for supporting our students in Chocola. Our students join us in thanking you–we continue this educational progress only with your help!
